  • medicine vs drug — medicine to lekarstwo (ogólnie, też lecznictwo), drug może znaczyć lek, ale częściej kojarzy się z narkotykiem — bezpieczniej użyć medication. Take this medicine twice a day. / Some drugs are illegal.
  • hurt vs harm — hurt = boleć / zranić (fizycznie, konkretnie), harm = szkodzić (ogólnie, zdrowiu, rozwojowi). My leg hurts. / Smoking can harm your health.
  • disease vs illness — disease to konkretna jednostka chorobowa (np. heart disease), illness to ogólny stan bycia chorym. Heart disease is a serious illness.
  • injury vs illness — injury to uraz/kontuzja (z zewnątrz, np. wypadek), illness to choroba (wewnętrzna, np. infekcja). He got a knee injury playing football, not an illness.
  • prescription vs recipe — fałszywi przyjaciele! prescription to recepta (od lekarza), recipe to przepis kulinarny. The doctor wrote me a prescription, not a recipe for soup!
  • cure vs heal — cure = wyleczyć chorobę (skupienie na chorobie), heal = zagoić się (skupienie na ciele, ranie). This medicine cured his infection, and the wound healed within a week.
