Past Perfect · Past Simple vs Past Perfect
Bez niego nie da się poprawnie zbudować mowy zależnej (dział 23), trzeciego okresu warunkowego (dział 21) ani zdania z by the time. Na egzaminie sprawdzany w luce po after, before, by the time, when… already.
W kursie: 10.2 (Past Perfect w narracji), 13.2, 14.1 (mowa zależna).
📐 Gramatyka w pigułce — budowa
| Twierdzenie | Przeczenie | Pytanie |
|---|---|---|
| The train had left before we reached the station. | I hadn't seen him before. | Had you met her before the party? |
Skrót: I'd left, she'd gone. ('d to też would: I'd go = I would go; rozróżnia je forma czasownika: 'd gone vs 'd go.)
📐 Gramatyka w pigułce — użycie
| Funkcja | Przykład | Komentarz |
|---|---|---|
| wcześniejsze z dwóch zdarzeń w przeszłości | When I arrived, the meeting had already started. | „earlier past” |
| stan przed momentem w przeszłości | By 1492 Columbus had made many sea voyages. | by + data |
| doświadczenie do momentu w przeszłości | It was the first time the neighbours had seen my new flat. | odpowiednik Present Perfect przesunięty w przeszłość |
| przyczyna wcześniejsza | She was tired because she hadn't slept well. |
📐 Gramatyka w pigułce — kontrast
| Past Simple (kolejność naturalna) | Past Perfect (cofnięcie) |
|---|---|
| When I arrived, the meeting started. (zaczęło się po moim przyjściu) | When I arrived, the meeting had started. (już trwało) |
| She left when he came. (wyszła w chwili jego przyjścia) | She had left when he came. (nie zastał jej) |
| After I finished, I went home. (after już mówi o kolejności) | After I had finished, I went home.
- ✗ I had seen him yesterday. → ✓ I saw him yesterday. (brak punktu odniesienia; sama data nie wystarcza)
- ✗ When he had come, we had started. → ✓ When he came, we had already started. (tylko wcześniejsze w Perfect)
- ✗ After I had ate… → ✓ After I had eaten…
- ✗ I had lived here since 2016. (jeśli nadal mieszkasz) → ✓ I have lived here since 2016.
💭 Pomyśl
💭 Pomyśl: „When the police arrived, the thief escaped" i „When the police arrived, the thief had escaped".
